“Never laugh as a hearse goes by for you may be the next to die…”

Straight from Dallas Ft.Worth area, in a beautiful Taxicab yellow. Our 1974 Cadillac Hearse with a 472ci V8 with automatic Transmission has arrived from being the last ride of several corpses on their way to meeting their maker, now it gets to be our marker of murder at the scariest New Haunted house at the world Famous Texas Music Ranch in Austin Texas.

A signature marker of the Hearse is the scrolled markers on the side known as Landau Bars. These can be found on nearly every modern hearse that most of us have ever seen escorting the dearly departed to their final resting place. But few know the reason these are found on hearses.

This goes back to horse drawn carriages and a well known luxury buggy maker known as Landau had the best vehicles for the wealthy. However the bars that we know today were actual brass hinges that made the carriage a convertible, which was ideal for transporting a coffin in style.

Today, we have these modified wagons that make transporting our victims of their demise but we still like to have the dignity of grace and keep the tradition of having the Landau bars affixed for purely aesthetic purposes. It still grabs attention and demands respect for the dead as you see one pass.

o man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend’s were.
Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

John Donne
